Project G — The G Entry in the GAD Series
Galaxy Shooter is Project G in the Game Alphabet Development (GAD) series, my long-term personal challenge to develop 26 games, each representing a different letter of the English alphabet.
The projects are not developed alphabetically. Instead, each one is chosen based on the skills, genres, mechanics or technologies I want to explore at that point in my journey as a game developer.
About This Project
Galaxy Shooter was developed while following the Udemy course "The Ultimate Guide to Game Development with Unity (Official)" by GameDevHQ as a learning project.
The course provided the core gameplay framework, assets and systems used throughout the game. After completing the tutorial, I expanded upon the original project by implementing my own gameplay balancing mechanic.
Rather than keeping enemy movement at a constant speed, enemies gradually become faster over time. Starting at normal speed, they continuously accelerate throughout the first 200 seconds of gameplay until reaching three times their original speed. This creates a steadily increasing challenge and encourages players to adapt their strategy the longer they survive.
While Galaxy Shooter served as a learning project, it also represents another milestone in my development journey and demonstrates my understanding of Unity fundamentals, gameplay programming, balancing, UI systems, game states and mobile game development.
Availability
Galaxy Shooter was primarily developed for Android.
Other platform builds can be made available upon request.
Notes
- This is a non-commercial portfolio project.
- The game will always remain free to play.
- Feedback, bug reports and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Good luck, pilot. The galaxy won't defend itself.
